If you can manage it, it’s a good idea to book a room in Lagom — for two reasons. First, with dinner to look forward to you need only walk downstairs to enjoy Brendan Byrne’s meticulous cooking, and Byrne is cooking some of the best food in the Kingdom. Second, breakfast in Lagom is one of the best in Ireland, and one of the most original: the kitchen makes a corned beef brisket hash with fried eggs and house hot sauce that is the best start to the day you will find. That breakfast should get just as much attention as dinner shows just how meticulous Byrne and his wife, Liz, are: every detail in Lagom is expertly curated, and Byrne’s skill with wood fire cooking means the flavours at dinner are sublime. Value for money is exceptional and Lagom is one of the very best examples of the Irish restaurant with rooms.
